1981 Sense and Sensibility

This production of Sense and Sensibility scores over the later film production in that it has a longer time to run, and can therefore portray the book in a closer manner.
The characterisation is good, the scenes and musical background contribute to a perfectly presented whole.
Tracey Childs makes a good Marianne Dashwood but sometimes, in an effort to display deep emotion, she gushes too much. Irene Richard does a competent job of  Elinor. I also find the Edward Ferrers in this production much more believable than the portrayal done by Hugh Grant in the later film.
On the whole this is yet another class act from the BBC.
